Popularity of selected politicians in international context - January 2026

In addition to surveying trust in Czech top politicians, in January 2026 the Public Opinion Research Center of the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, v. v. i., also examined the Czech public's trust in selected foreign political leaders as part of the Our Society Panel. The Czech public assessed whether they tended to trust or distrust selected politicians, whether they were unfamiliar with them, or whether they did not know.

French President Emmanuel Macron enjoyed the highest level of trust among the Czech public, with 52% of respondents saying they rather trust him, followed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (44% of Czechs rather trust him) and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk (34% trust).

Conversely, Russian President Vladimir Putin recorded the highest level of distrust, with 87% of Czechs distrusting him, followed by US President Donald Trump (83% distrust).

Trust in foreign political leaders varies significantly according to respondents' electoral preferences. The differences are particularly evident in the cases of Robert Fico, Viktor Orbán, and Volodymyr Zelensky.

Due to a change in the CVVM survey methodology, the results of the present survey are not directly comparable to the results of previous surveys. More information about the new methodology can be found in this press release.
