Public Opinion on Abortion, Euthanasia, and Prostitution – May/June 2025

In a survey conducted at the end of May and beginning of June by the Public Opinion Research Center, the opinions of the Czech public were gathered on issues that can be considered controversial from a moral standpoint. Respondents were asked about their opinions on abortion, euthanasia, and prostitution.

More than four-fifths (84%) of Czech society believe that women should have the full right to decide whether to have an abortion. One-tenth of the population (10%) believe that abortion should be permitted, but only taking into account the health and social considerations of the child and the woman.

More than four-fifths (81%) of respondents "definitely" or "somewhat" agree with the legalization of euthanasia. People aged 30–39 are most likely to agree with the introduction of this right (91% of them agreed). People aged 65 and over are least likely to agree (75% agreed), as are people aged 15–19 (68% agreed).

Opinions on the legal regulation of prostitution vary considerably among the Czech population. Two-fifths (40%) believe that prostitution does not need to be regulated by law, while more than one-third (34%) believe that prostitution should be regulated as a trade.

Due to a change in the CVVM survey methodology, the results of the present survey are not directly comparable to the results of previous surveys. More information about the new methodology can be found in this press release.
