In a survey conducted in June 2025, questions concerning energy issues were included in the probability panel Naše společnost (Our Society). The specific questions asked sought to ascertain the Czech public's attitudes toward the use of nuclear energy for electricity generation in the Czech Republic, the level of concern among Czech citizens about nuclear energy, the level of declared trust in the government's decision-making on nuclear energy, and opinions on the construction of a new nuclear power plant unit in Dukovany. This press release provides a basic analysis of the data.
Almost three-quarters of respondents (73%) said they agreed with the use of nuclear energy to generate electricity in the Czech Republic (36% "strongly agree," 17% "agree," and 20% "somewhat agree"). Only one-fifth (5%) of respondents expressed the opposite opinion, i.e., a negative attitude toward the use of nuclear energy to generate electricity ("somewhat against" 4% and "definitely against" 1%).
The construction of a new unit at the Dukovany nuclear power plant is supported by roughly four-fifths of the population (45% "definitely yes" and 35% "somewhat yes"). A comparison with last August's survey shows that Czech citizens' opposition to the construction has declined.
The majority (59%) of respondents have minor or major concerns. Specifically, 2% of respondents said they had major concerns about the use of nuclear energy, one-sixth (17%) expressed moderate concerns, and two-fifths (40%) had minor concerns. On the other hand, 38% of respondents said they had no concerns about the use of nuclear energy.
Among women, there is a 29 percentage point difference in approval of the use of nuclear energy for electricity generation compared to men (88% of men expressed approval compared to 59% of women). The situation is similar in the case of concerns about nuclear energy. More than half (54%) of men have "no concerns," while less than a quarter (22%) of women chose this option.
