Citizens on the Current Economic Situation in the Czech Republic, Living Standards, and the Financial Situation of Their Households – March/April 2026

More than half (58%) of Czech citizens rate the living standards of their households as good, 33% as “neither good nor bad,” and 8% consider them poor. One-fifth (20%) of the population believes that their households’ material living conditions will improve this year, one-quarter (26%) expects them to worsen, and more than half (52%) expects them to remain unchanged.
Just under a third of respondents view the current economic situation in the Czech Republic as good (31%), two-fifths (42%) as neither good nor bad, and a quarter (26%) as bad. More than one-tenth of respondents (12%) expect the economic situation in the Czech Republic to improve this year. Nearly one-third (30%) expect the economic situation to remain unchanged. More than half (54%) expect the economic situation in the Czech Republic to worsen.
More than a third of the Czech population (36%) finds it difficult to make ends meet, while nearly two-thirds (63%) find it easy to do so. More than a quarter (26%) of respondents stated that they had found themselves in a difficult financial situation once or repeatedly over the past 12 months, and another 3% of households are in such a situation constantly.

More than two-thirds (70%) of Czech citizens consider their household to be “neither rich nor poor.” Another 15% believe their household is poor. On the other hand, the same proportion of people (15%) described their household as rich.
The level of subjective deprivation across various areas of consumption is lowest for basic necessities such as food, clothing, and everyday household items (5% of respondents reported that their household has difficulty meeting these needs) and highest for luxury goods, with eight out of ten (79%) households stating that their household income is insufficient to purchase such goods.
